Improving at predictions, just not at winning with a monotype team

Standard Procedure, might include something more comprehensive next week for mid season reviews

Last Week’s Matchups

Deathbypudding (2–0) Matieu (0–2)

Fuck

I’ll make a meme for every match I get 2–0'd in and maybe some of the ones I go 1–1.

killazoid 2–0 Glitchtastic (2–0)

Mamo continues to absolutely sit on people

DoomCow33 1–1 Glump (0–2)

Vaporeon absorbed by reuniclus, rocks ate everything else up.

Dolly 2–0 LoneWolf (2–0)

No amount of tech can make this matchup favorable unfortunately (AV kangaskhan :pikas:)

Korgoth 1–1 SPACEDUDE360000 (1–1)

Admin gets abused by torracat g1 then abuses game 2

Sultann 0–2 Coahre (2–0)

Guess I greatly overestimated Coahre’s team and underestimated Sultann’s play

bsvhsvj 1–1 FatSloth (0–2)

Too much more fatsloth effort and we’re goners (Krookodile busted)

Apeshift 1–1 Tiramisu (2–0)

Bug vengeance achieved

FJFJFJJ 1–1 Burrahobbit (1–1)

Evenly matched gym leaders match each other evenly

DerpyDots 2–0 skynumber5 (2–0)

Water bug SLAPS

PatchThomas 1–1 Tyrannosaurus X (0–2)

Black cat fox things have 9 lives and are able to murder ghosts

VinnySal 0–2 dogical (1–1)

P2 barely clutches out a game against a hard hitting lineup

Toth 2–0 Style (Double FF)

Rip

bloodninja 2–0 Holoホロ(2–0)

Delibird putting in work

Siixu 2–0 aponzeus (2–0)

Ice team was doomed from the start

So overall that is 7/14. Perfect 50%, which is far better than last week. I also got fewer of these totally wrong which is not worth any points but it does make me feel a little better.

This Week’s Matchups

Matieu vs killazoid

The team that slapped me into nonexistance with Darmanitan vs. the top KO leader. Killazoid has some nice type variety that I didn’t have to help him absorb at least a few hits out of matieu’s slappers. He doesn’t however have a great answer to vikavolt, which may end up causing him a ton of trouble when that crazy hard hitter comes out. Both of these teams are strong, and while I think killazoid’s is slightly stronger, matieu’s team has a very solid matchup. 1–1

Glump vs Sultann

Hopefully I get this out before they play, but I’m writing this one early to make sure I’ve at least made my prediction. These are two of the stronger teams in the league, thanks to their access to solid tricores for both of these players. Sultann is going to have a real hard time of this one I think though. Reuniclus is almost uncontested, as is the stab moves coming out from the two swords of jusitce on Glump’s side. Only whimsicott can really answer those three, and it’s just not going to be able to do everything. Glump looks heavily favored, but I also thought that for Sultann against Coahre so who knows. 2–0 Glump

Dolly vs Deathbypudding

2–0 Deathbypudding. So something I didn’t realize before prepping for this matchup is how consistant and solid all of Dolly’s mons are when it comes to speed. They literally all fall between 70 and 95. So I do have a slight speed advantage here, but Dolly has a lot of tanky mons and good priority. I am not looking forward to dealing with Earthquakes out of Sawk and Kangaskhan and scorching sands out of arcanine. This one looks hard, but not nearly as hard as the matchup against Mat, which was easily one of my worst in the league. I can take this badmin (even if he’s techinically one of the only players that consistantly takes games off me.)

SPACEDUDE360000 vs Apeshift

Oh boy this one looks hard for the bug squad. Ttar can kill literally anything. Klefki walls most of the team and Palossand walls basically everything. On top of that, there are two different stealth rock users to really cut the bugs down. This one is going to take a lot of fancy tech and solid play from Apeshift to even take one game, and I don’t think he’s going to be able to take a second game. 2–0 Spacedude

Glitchtastic vs Korgoth

A pretty even looking matchup. I don’t see either of these players easily running away with this series, although I do think that Glitch’s team looks slightly favored thanks to trace gardevoir checking flygon so hard. Heliosk and gallade can still just slap things out of the game though, so it’s not a clear cut favorite here. I’m tempted to go 2–0, but I’m going to settle for 1–1. I think Korgoth can pull off one game, if not two, with good play.

FatSloth vs DoomCow33

Now that he is trying, Fatsloth looks unstoppable. Backed up by a very powerful team, a fatsloth putting in effort is a force to be reckoned with. Wigglywoo can beat out vaporeon in a one-on-one matchup, and the combination of meinshao and krookodile just smacking things hard is hard to deal with without any clear walls. Slowbro-g always threatens to win games it shouldn’t thanks to quick draw. 2–0 Fatsloth

DerpyDots vs LoneWolf

Lonewolf goes from one of his worst matchups in the league to one of his better. Zero normal resists and only one pokemon with super effective stab is going to make this one pretty hard for Derpy’s lineup. Nasty plot toxicroak with vacuum wave is definitely a scary cleaner if the special walls go down, and physical or mixed sets could catch out an unsuspecting special wall and remove it. Comfey is always an X-factor as well, as is something like ddance necrozma running brick break. And araquanid slaps. Hot take incoming. 1–1 Derpydots

Burrahobbit vs Tyrannosaurus X

No that TX is finally not mono bug, Burra gets to bring a mono fire squad to the battlefield. TX has a few fire weaknesses and not many resistances on her team, which could leave her open to getting broken open by wallbreakers like scarf charizard. Burra will look to utilize tools like scarf charizard to break most pokemon, while using gale wings talonflame to clean up and check faster threats. For TX, scarf rock blast cinccino wants to take out this wall of fire types while starmie tries to check the team with sun down. If cinccino goes down too early, this one looks all burrahobbit. 1–1

FJFJFJJ vs Coahre

FJ’s poison type team is finally forced to come up against a team that is not another monotype. And there are a couple of dangerous pokemon on Coahre’s side that might just sweep the poison types under the rug. Swoobat, if given a turn of setup, can break down the entire poison team barring skuntank. And banded tailwind supported golurk can still just slap anything that doesn’t say weezing into the shadow realm. Outside of one or two threats in inteleon and swoobat however, Weezing-g is a hard kill for Coahre’s team, and can dish out significant damage and utility. This match looks like it’s going to be a close one either way. 1–1

bloodninja vs bsvhsvj

After seeing bsv’s team in action a few times, a real standout player from the squad has been dusknoir. Poltergeists hit incredibly hard, and is basically unresisted on bloodninja’s side, especially considering that sneasel can get deleted by a power-up punch if it comes in wrong. Slowking is also a hard takedown for bloodninja, leaving it a lot of space to deal chip damage and pivot over and over again. Delibird will also struggle to do much. Oh, and escavelier is going to smack literally anything that doesn’t say goodra over and over until they die. 2–0 bsv

Siixu vs Tiramisu

Tiramisu returns to take on yet another monotype squad. After losing 2–0 to apeshift’s bugs last week, Tiramisu is going to be looking for a strong comeback against the rising monotype threat. And there are a lot of good tools here for Tiramisu to drop another monotype team into the low regions of the bracket. Bronzong, Mr.Rime, and especially Sylveon are incredibly capable of smacking down the majority of Siixu’s squad. The only pokemon capable of taking these three on, Lucario, is answered effectively by the numerous tanky ground types on Tiramisu’s team. This looks like another really biased matchup against siixu. 2–0 Tiramisu

dogical vs PatchThomas

Mono ghost seems to have a pretty solid matchup here, assuming that Patch can take out the one major threat. Pangoro is a mon I value very highly, thanks to it carrying me throughout a few matches back in my original S2 run. Very few things on Patch’s team are going to be able to eat a banded, or worse, SD, knock off from the big panda bear. And even mimkyu has to be careful, thanks to Pangoro’s access to gunk shot and bullet punch. In addition, Scrappy boombursts out of exploud are unresisted and very scary for a team that otherwise has no tools to absorb the hits. Mimikyu may just come up big and rise its way to the top of the KOs if given a turn or two of setup though. 1–1

skynumber5 vs VinnySal

My first doubt about this matchup is whether it will even get played. Sky has an incredibly busy schedule, and it has been a little difficult to get in contact Vinny for scheduling over the past few weeks. This one could easily be a forfeit, but I’ll review it as if the match is happening in 20 minutes. I unfortunately think that Sky’s team is one of the weakest in the league, and while I’m not sure why I think this, it probably comes down to my bias against Steelix and P-Z for their tiers. Vinny has a few better tools, like P2 to wall the ghost types and steal magic bounce from Xatu, and Grimm to slap the hell out of this team with 0 resists and 4 weaknesses to dark. Sky is going to need to really show off the strength of this team to take his first win ever. 2–0 VinnySal

Style vs aponzeus

Style continues to drop, proving once and for all that he is truly washed up (and he threw our fusion cup games.) But now, there is a lycanroc-dusk coming up against an entire team of ice types without even a neutral hit to worry about. Banded lycanroc-d probably just OHKOs 5/6 of the mons aponzeus brings, checks cloyster or frosmoth boosting, and overall just mostly invalidates all of the ice team’s mons. If that wasn’t enough, sharpedo gets to slap things, druddigon gets to lay rocks, and klinklang might not be dead weight for the fist time ever. 2–0 Style

That’s all for this week’s matchups, as Holo is on a bye after we lost Toth (crazy strong team, all for naught.) Next week I might try and make a power ranking or something for the mid season. Seriously though, someone else make predictions or power rankings. We need more content that involves flame and rivalry (all in good fun though.)
